mario starcatcher 2

Outline

Mario Star Catcher is a Flash game created by Lolliepop and Cuber3. The original title is Mario Star Catcher 2[^1]. It is based on the graphics of the Super Mario series. The character design was based on Super Mario World. In the original, you have to reach the flag at the end of the map to clear the stage, but in this game, as the title suggests, you have to catch the star at the end of the map to clear the stage.

The theme song is Super Mario World Overworld Theme and Super Mario Land's Overworld Theme.

Play Tips

  • Even if you press the button hard, the character moves a lot. Also, the various terrains in the game require good control from the players. It looks easy, but it is a game that requires fine control.
  • Use the arrow keys to move, and the space bar to jump.
  • When an exclamation mark block is pressed, a specific phenomenon occurs.
  • If you press the question mark block, it gives you several coins.
  • The hint block gives a hint when pressed.
  • Collecting 100 Coins adds 1 Life.
  • Picking up a green mushroom adds 1 life.
  • When you press a switch, something happens.

Differences from the Original

  • Unlike the original, there is no time attack element, and except for 1UP mushrooms and coins, items from the original do not appear[^2].
  • Unlike the original, if you touch an enemy, you will die unconditionally[^3]. Don't try to get rid of enemies; you have to avoid them unconditionally.
  • Also, I don't know if it's because of the limitations of the Flash game, but when I get on the moving platform, I have to keep moving according to the movement of the platform.
  • Only 1P play is possible, and there is no middle boss, so Luigi, Princess Peach, and Kinopio do not appear.

Stages

There are stages 1 through 20.
Stage 20 is a boss battle, featuring Koopa.

Bugs

There are so many bugs. Here's a list of the bugs we've found so far:

  • If you fall from stage 6, you will die instantly regardless of the number of lives.
  • When entering the pipe in Stage 7, press and hold the arrow key to move to Stage 6.
  • When entering the pipe in stage 13, hold down the arrow keys to go to stage 6.
  • Game crashes if you fall into a pit in stages 16 and 19.
  • Life count does not decrease in stage 19[^4].
  • If you fall into a pit in Stage 19, only Mario disappears and the game does not reset.
  • If you go left sideways on stage 20, go to stage 17.
